Bringing Baltimore Together to Close the Equity Gap on the Digital Divide

STEM Center of Excellence is teaming with area organizations to provide laptops, tablets and high-speed internet access to students and families without internet access and/or an internet-connected device; both must-haves to effectively operate in the coronavirus pandemic era. 

COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus), is exposing infrastructure gaps within underserved and resource deprived communities across the United States. These gaps are often linked to income, public health, and digital inequalities. Inequalities, ultimately leaving local residents within ​Baltimore City’s Black Butterfly​, a term coined by ​Dr. Lawrence Brown​, without equitable access to real-time information and virtual connectivity during the pandemic.

We are joining a working collective whose combined efforts will reduce educational disparities; bridge the growing digital divide; and subdue growing anxieties as COVID-19 impacts Baltimore.  Our current requests for laptops have far exceeded the current donations.  We welcome our business partners and community organizations to join us in any of the following ways:
